Develop YOUR Prayer Life!

gateHave you ever come to a time of prayer and after a few minutes of listing off your requests, found yourself with nothing left to say? How about getting up early, kneeling down only to wake up after offering the Lord a "zzzzz" offering? While praying with others, do we sometimes catch ourselves praying louder thinking those kinds of prayers have a better chance of getting answered? It’s amazing how much earthly thinking goes on while we are trying to lift our hearts and prayers to the Lord. There's a better way!

Paul Yongi Cho from South Korea, teaches that the Lord's prayer is like a "running track." Whenever he isn't sure what to pray, he begins again "Hallowing the name of the Lord" for a time. Afterwards, he prays about the Kingdom coming...etc. This model of prayer has significantly contributed to how we at the New Hampshire Alliance "do prayer". It has freed us from rote & repetitious prayers and has opened up a forum by which we can attune our ears to heaven to wait and listen in the Lord’s presence for what’s stirring His heart.

As the New Hampshire Alliance has grown and developed, we have seen the Holy Spirit teach us to wait upon Him more and "pray into" those areas that He highlights in our hearts. A typical hour of prayer might see us seeking the Lord and waiting in His presence for the first 40 minutes. During this time, we'll be listening to worship music and mediating on God’s Word. Worship music is a gift to the Body of Christ and is powerful to draw us into the Lord’s presence even when we use iPods and CD's!

After this, we'll take a few minutes to share what we think the Holy Spirit is saying to us. The rest of the time will be spent praying as a group, with one person leading out or all of us in concert crying out in agreement with what the Holy Spirit has spoken. The fruit of these times has really been amazing. Sometimes we've gone back for a second round of waiting on the Lord and seeking His face - its been that good! It has been effective in our personal prayer times as well as our corporate ones.

Why not try it tomorrow when you get up? A favorite worship CD, some time focusing on the holiness of the Lord and a willingness to wait upon His leading. Just think what He may reveal to you!
